COMPILATION OF SURVEYS ====================== People most concerned: L.Eyer, J.Cuypers, P. Popowski (?) Jan Cuypers gave a summary of the compilations which were done. To see these, please go to the webpage: http://obswww.unige.ch/~eyer/VSWG/ click "WG Documents" (left frame) and then click "Compilation of some surveys" He pointed out that some of the compilations were used to derive the estimations of variable stars (see next section). He suggested to add a comment on the methods used to extract and classify the variables. As an example ASAS-3 used Fourier series with the help of 2MASS colours and IRAS infrared fluxes (cf. Pojmanski & Maciejewski 2004, AcA 54, 153). But still the light curves have been manually checked. In this page we list the status of some existing surveys with their output of variable stars. With such a page we can see the general return of surveys. We note the very high return of the Hipparcos mission which is reaching nearly 10% of the number of nominal stars (This rate is similar in the survey part and in the selected stars). Other thoughts (not discussed): Information on MACHO should be completed. Could Piotr do it? Add new page on future surveys like PanStarrs and LSST Actions: ------- Jan will add the method used for classification Laurent add a new page on future surveys Piotr (?) could complete the table for MACHO Laurent & Dafydd The 19th of October 2004
