Abstract

The results of intermediate band photometry of late-type stars in the infra-red indicate that the continuous radiation of these stars deviates noticeably from that of black bodies. An emission peak near 1.6 mu was observed in agreement with other observations. It is suggested that the prominence of the 1.6 mu peak is a result of combination of H-and H2-on the one hand and H2O on the other as sources of continuous opacities. In G and K stars, this feature is primarily caused by H- and H2-. In the M stars it is predominantly caused by H2O, but the contribution of H- and H2- tends to enhance this feature over other peaks that are also caused by H2O.
