A star caught drifting away

Wednesday 16 April 2008

Iota Horologii is a star know to host a massive planet. Last November, observations conducted at ESO 3.6m-telescope at La Silla with Harps have allowed an asterosismology study of the star itself. Analysis of its composition and age has determined that the star was once a member of the Hyades cluster, 130 light-years away. This is an important result to understand how stars move in the Milky Way.
