Daily Check-List for Coralie Observers on the Swiss-Euler Telescope (T4)

The following check-list is intended as a guide-line for Coralie Observers. Of course the detailed sequence of the various task can be modified. This list shall just help in reminding these general steps. For discussion on observing strategy please contact the Coralie Group or refer to the document “Coralie pour les Nuls” to be found on the T4 web page.

Afternoon

1.    Check the water level in the two humidifier and refill if necessary

2.    If you burned CDROMs or DVDROMs, check their status and stock Master and COPY CD in respective boxes. If you put the data of the preceding night(s) on USB, check the integrity of the data.

3.    Check Coralie and Camera temperature whether “OK”

4.    Check the Coralie-dewar (TP-60) LN2-level.

5.    Check the Camera-dewar (Ranger) LN2-level

6.    Archive the data, either on CD, DVD or USB disk. Use for this purpose the Data Archiving Unit (DAU). Type “dau.csh” in a terminal and a user interface will appear. Create one CD/DVD for the La Silla local archive and put it in the box on the right desk (write the night date, ‘CORALIE’ and ‘MASTER’ on it), and create either one CD/DVD for your institution or put the data on your USB disk.

T0 - 2h before the beginning of the night

7.    Start-up instrument without telescope

8.    Login on Castor from the terminal “t4main”

9.    Login on Castor1, e.g from the terminal “t4aux-left”

10.Insert standard calibration exposures (“insert calib”) into the edp and start the calibrations (“Lancer une pose” in “UIF Coralie”). Put an “Auto Stop” after the calibration exposure in order to avoid that the observation start too early.

11.Refill the Caméra 2 with LN2 following the procedure

12.Open the dome windows

13.Prepare your observation night in “edp”, e.g. by loading the sources from a catalogue.

T0 - 1h before the beginning of the night

14.When the filling tube is warm, disconnect it from the C2 camera put the filling tube back in its park position. Make sure that the security switch is off (red led is off)

15.After the end of the calibration exposures start-up the telescope in the xrunall panel: “Démarrage du télescope”

16.Report possible errors during the start-up via the problem-report web page

17.Open the dome with the command “Ouverture de la coupole” in the xrunall panel

18.Close the curtains to avoid stray light.

T0 – 15min before the beginning of the night

19.Start the observation night perform the observations (“Lancer une pose” in “UIF Coralie”)

End of the night

20.Wait the end of the reduction and make a “Fin de nuit”

21.Connect tube to the C2 camera and start a LN2 re-filling of the Caméra 2
