Austin Healey 3000: Fuel system

The fuel system looks very straightforward and static for the most part, but this does that it does not go
with time. That was my lesson when I started cleaning the various parts

The petrol tank, which was by the way doing its job OK before the restoration, showed that it was corroded through after sandblasting. This was in fact designed into the car because the tanks sits in the bottom of the trunk, which has a sort of porthole to let a bulge in the tank protrude on the road side. Rain projections will make their way into the trunk area through the porthole and gather between the trunk and the tank, eating them quietly away, while this horror is hidden from the happy owner by the trunk liner!

The solid fuel line that has everyday roadside experience was also beyond redemption as was the aftermarket fuel pump with its plastic threads.

The carburetters, besides being dirty showed only a moderate amount of use, but while you are at it… why not rebuild them?

The bottom line is that the car has now a new tank (aluminum) from AH Spares, all custom fabricated fuel lines, new braided fuel hose, new SU fuel pump.

The HS6 SU’s have been cleaned, hardware re-plated, re-bushed (std size) and rebuilt with new throttle shafts, jets, needles, gaskets and Grose-jet bowl fuel level control.
