Short Bio
I am chief of engineering, head of mechanical workshop at the Observatory of Geneva, the Astronomy Department of the University of Geneva. Next to these vertical duties I also serve as senior systems engineer and project lead in various in cutting-edge astronomical instrumentation project. Presently I am the systems engineer of NIRPS, an adaptive optics assisted infrared spectrograph designed to look for small mass planets in the habitable zone of M dwarf stars. This is an effort funded partly by the NCCR PlanetS program.
Since 2011 I have been involved in the CHEOPS satellite project. I have lead two work packages related to the calibration and verification of the payload performance: Characterization of the dectectors, and development of a payload calibration system: (elaboration of calibration methods, developement and MAIT of a calibration bench, conduction of the on-ground calibration campaign). Now that the payload has been fully characterized and is being integrated with the satellite bus, I advise on on-sky calibration and performance monitoring.
Until 2014 I worked as system engineer in charge of system integration of the SPHERE instrument for the VLT, and in charge of the SPHERE calibration module.
I am also involved in the development of different techniques for the high accuracy calibration of spectrogaphs. NIRPS, HARPS, HARPS-N, CORALIE, and SPIROU to name a few.
Formerly ('99 to '03), I was at the Steward Observatory, University of Arizona, as the lead engineer of the adaptive optics system for the 6.5 meter MMT telescope; making the world's first adaptive secondary-based AO system work.
